In October 2020, I volunteered to help the San Francisco Night Ministry complete a holiday card to go out for Christmas 2020. The San Francisco Night Ministry helps increase access to spiritual care and a multi-faithed community at night. That includes on the phone or in the streets.

The Night Ministry wanted a holiday card to update people about what they did to help during the pandemic. Also included was a designed envelope with a donation slip for anyone that could help out. They gave me the card from the previous year and told me about their mission and branding. They were looking for me to deliver different unique options.
To start the design, I took inspiration from the golden gate bridge. I wanted it to feel close to an inspirational poster.
The next idea I had was more modern designs, being more photo-heavy to show what they do. I found these designs less appealing.
After I presented those ideas, I was still hungry to push myself to do something unusual. I thought of a tri-fold, with two flaps that open up into the reading part.
My idea for this was to open up your heart, fitting perfectly with the Ministry's mission. With the background being stars and the moon, these two elements worked perfectly together and conveyed what they wanted.
This idea included many different challenges. One of them was custom sizing. It took a bit to get the file correctly sized for print. Another problem was getting it printed at the shop. It took a lot of back and forth to get it properly cut. The final dilemma was getting all the text to fit on the back. A lot of meetings took place to get the text cut down enough to fit.
After it was printed and delivered, the night ministry was thrilled. They loved how it represented their company and its mission, bringing donations and eyes to their mission.
